Introduction to Leading Course

This two day course is ideal for anyone with seconding experience and wanting to lead their first climb. Covering everything from selection of protection and ropework to understanding guidebooks and choosing routes, you should leave with a confident understanding of lead climbing.

Previous Experience: an understanding of basic rope work and belaying techniques.

Is it for me? This course is for people who want to make the transition from following a partner, to making the first moves on the lead. You should already be a competent second; able to put on a harness; tie in to the end of a rope; and have experience of belaying and tying into anchors.

What it covers: The aim of the course is to help you progress towards leading independently.

The Accommodation: Plas y Brenin has character - being a large renovated coaching inn – and has great views of the surrounding mountains from the large friendly bar.

What will I need? Outer clothing, walking boots and rucksacks may be borrowed from the extensive stores, and all technical equipment will be provided. The advice given is not to rush out and buy kit for the course, but use it as a chance to find out what would best suit your needs.  Clothing, etc. can be borrowed at no extra cost.
